I have a couple of Valentine’s Day TV segments coming up and weeks and weeks ago, I was asked to submit project ideas to all of the TV shows that wanted to book it to pre-approve the ideas. So,fashion jewelry, on January 2nd, just back from the holiday break, here I am already thinking Valentine’s Day. One idea from my book Simply Green Giving that I love that, well, not a single TV producer liked was this one: upcycle a nice chocolate box into a surprise treat jewelry box. I thought this was a nice idea to give to someone who loves jewelry or to a small child. So, when they think they are just getting another ho-hum box of chocolates, instead they find a selection of vintage rings, charms, earrings and more you’ve collected for them. For a small child, a mom could even raid her own jewelry box and just fill it with unwanted costume pieces so a little girl could play dress up? Or you could leave all the chocolate inside and have the middle piece have a surprise engagement ring.

And yet, year after year, the campers eagerly sign up, and many of them are returnees. What’s my secret to success? Well, for starters, this is one area of my life where I gladly cast aside my inner control freak and delegate, delegate, delegate. I’m a shitty seamstress, but I happen to have two friends, Sam and Geneva, who are 20, wildly fashionable, and whizzes on the sewing machine. This means that the occasions I, personally, come in contact with needle and thread are usually no more than once over the course of the camps. Then there’s Ann, another friend, who is a genius at making accessories from found objects��she’s got the kids whipping up jewelry from boxes full of stuff most anyone else would throw away. And this year, our latest addition to staff is Ceci,freshwater Pearl Necklaces, who can make anything out of duct tape. So basically, it falls to me to bark out orders�� Time to clean up! ��and hand out treats during the daily ritual known as Unhealthy Snack Time .

Knowing the Truth
Hello All!!! It’s Thursday so the truths shall come out! 1. I want an occasion to wear a little black dress. I see it all the time in the movies but I’ve never had the opportunity to have a reason to wear one. Shall I make one up? 2. My refrigerator is organized both inside and outside. I’m very much an organizer, different shelves hold certain items. Magnets on the outside have to be evenly (or at least creatively placed)… as does the menu and papers for the week. 3. I always keep a few books by my side table for when I need a kick in the pants. I can read the acknowledgements and remind myself all the people who are counting me (obvs not the people in the book but you get the point). 4. I love comedies and lately they’ve been rolling right in. Friends with Benefits, The Change-Up, and Horrible Bosses all had me laughing out loud. I love to laugh (I think you new that). 5. I have a jewelry box but rather than fill it with jewelery it is filled with hair clips.

Help me sell my gold!
Help me find the best way to sell unworn gold items. I seriously do have a jewelry box full of stuff I’ll never wear again. I have several chains, two wedding bands and a large ring, and various and sundry earrings. Some of the items I have are from Egypt, and I know the gold content is higher than 14K. I really want to sell this stuff, and I don’t want to feel creepy about it. I’d never mail it any place. I don’t think there is any ornamental value to the majority of it. It’s just gold with no sentimental value. Are pawn shops creepy? I see so many ads on tv, and they don’t LOOK creepy. Are there any things I need to know? Is one place going to give me a better rate over others? How do I choose a place to go? (I’m in the Virginia Beach, VA area.) I’m working poor and I’d like to have this extra money, but I can surely survive without it. He drove along Pacific Coast Highway looking for a new location to sell his product, and when he arrived in Laguna, he immediately felt confident that the store would be a great fit for the community. “The area, the people and the weather reminded me about Beirut, Lebanon, which is where our chocolate is from,” Houdroge says. “I found a sign for lease, I called the number and here we are. Honestly, I don’t think any other stores here carry the same type of chocolate.
